  UAE INFO

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of the formerly independent seven sheikhdoms of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain. It has a total population of 3.2 million and has an area of about 84,000 square kilometers - three quarters of the population are "foreigners". The country is known for its openness, tolerance and hospitality which attract visitors from all over the world.

Another important factor is security - the UAE is amongst the countries with a very low crime rate which is nearly zero. The UAE offers a unique tourist infrastructure which meets even the highest requirements:

  ABU DHABI

Abu Dhabi is the largest of all seven emirates with an area of 67,340 square kilometers, equivalent to 86.7% of the country’s total area, excluding the islands. Its coastline extends for more than 400 kilometers. The Emirates is divided into three regions. The first is the city of Abu Dhabi. The second is known Eastern Region, has its capital Al Ain city. The Western Region, The emirates third, comprises of 52 villages and has its capital Bida Zayed, or Zayed city.

In addition to the three mainland regions of Abu Dhabi, There are a number of important islands within the emirate including Das, Mubarraz, Zirku & Arzanah, near where the main offshore oil fields are located. Closer inshore are Dalma, Sir Bani Yas, Merawah & Saadityat, together with many smaller islands.

  DUBAI

From  the timeless tranquility of the desert to the lively bustle of the souk, Dubai offers a kaleidoscope of attractions for visitors.

In a single day, the tourist can experience everything from rugged mountains and awe-inspiring sand dunes to sandy beaches and lush green parks, from dusty villages to luxurious residential districts and from ancient houses with wind towers to ultra-modern shopping malls.

The emirate is both a dynamic international business centre and a laid-back tourist escape; a city where the sophistication of the 21st century walks hand in hand with the simplicity of a bygone era.

All of these contrasts give Dubai its unique flavor and personality; a cosmopolitan society with an international lifestyle, yet with a culture deeply rooted in the Islamic traditions of Arabia.

Since earliest time, Dubai has been a  meeting place, bringing together the Bedouin of the desert interior with the pearl-diver, the merchant of the city with the sea-going fisherman.

  SHARJAH

Sharjah is an intriguing city of colorful souks, where the most interesting art crafts can be found in every corner. The skills of the native jewelers are on display in the gold souk. Beautifully maintained parks to demonstrate the craftsmanship of the people, specially in the renovated village and the fort near Al Bourj Avenue. Many monuments stand in with its combination of the traditionally resorted houses, the block of sea corals, the bright colors of the materials souks, the exotic fruit  and vegetable market and the open fish market. Sharjah is a majestic fairytale city. This magic is also reflected in the fascinating museum, housed in the newly renovated Fort of Ajman

  AJMAN

With only 260 square kilometers, Ajman is the smallest Emirate and is almost completely surrounded by the Emirate of Sharjah. In the past, Ajman was a center for pearl diving, fishing and boat industry. The interesting Ajman museum is situated in an old fort and displays the life in the "old days" in this Emirate

  FUJAIRAH

Fujairah holds a unique position in the UAE. It is the only emirate that lies on the eastern side of the UAE, along the Gulf of Oman, while all the six other emirates are along the Arabian Gulf. The Hajar mountain range that divides the UAE in two, from Ras Al Khaimah to Al Ain has kept Fujairah separated from the rest of the country. Fujairah's main occupation in the past were fishing and agriculture. Pearl fishing was non-existent because the waters of the Gulf of Oman were much deeper and colder than the Arabian Gulf, not suitable for the growth of pearl oysters. The Ruler of Fujairah, H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, succeeded his father in 1974.

Its clean beaches, the numerous water sports like swimming, yachting, water surfing and deep sea fishing attract tourists all around the year. The Fujairah Tourism Bureau has the specific task of promoting in bound tourism. Three new hotels are being constructed in the scenic coastal strip between Rol-Diba and Al-Faqueet. Installation of a cable car system in the mountainous area of Al-Wareeah. The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries are planning to build a dam in this area where there is a famous waterfall.

  RAS AL KHAIMAH

Ras Al Khaimah, the most northerly emirate on the UAE's west coast, has a coastline of about 64 kilometers on the Arabian Gulf, backed by a fertile hinterland, with a separate enclave in the heart of the Hajar mountains to the southeast. Both parts of the emirate share borders with the Sultanate of Oman. In addition to its mainland territory, Ras Al Khaimah possesses a number of islands including those of Greater and Lesser Tunb, occupied by Iran since 1971. The area of the emirate is 168 square kilometers, which is equivalent to 2.2 per cent of the country's total area, excluding islands.

The city of Ras Al Khaimah is divided into two sections by Khor Ras Al Khaimah. In the western section, known as Old Ras Al Khaimah, are Ras Al Khaimah National Museum and a number of Government departments. The eastern part, known as Al Nakheel, houses the Ruler's office, several government departments and commercial companies. The two sections are connected by a large bridge built across the Khor.

Khor Khuwayr is an industrial region situated approximately 25 kilometers to the north of Ras Al Khaimah city. In addition to its major cement, gravel and marble enterprises, it is also the location for Port Saqr, the main export port for the emirate and the traditional fishing district of Rams. Digdagga district, on the other hand, is a well-known agricultural area and houses the Julphar pharmaceutical factory, the largest in the Arabian Gulf.

  UMM AL QUWAIN

Umm Al Quwain is situated between Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah on the West coast. The traditional occupation of this emirate has been fishing and date cultivation. The Ruler of Umm Al Quwain is H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Mu'alla. He succeeded his father in 1981.

Umm Al Quwain's attraction lies in its long clean beaches, an enclosed lagoon and public horse riding stables. Located 50 kilometers south of Umm Al Quwain is Falaj Al Mulla, the agricultural part of the Emirate. Seneyah Island, one kilometer away from the town of Umm Al Quwain, is a natural reserve for a large species of birds, deer and Al Qaram trees. Now tourism in Umm Al Quwain will receive a further boost with "Dreamland" - the world's largest aqua park.
